Artist in the family

My beautiful granddaughter is also very artistic.
She recently won the top prize in Art and Design Technology in her year at school
Although I used to draw, paint, knit and do craft work with her when she was younger she has far outstripped me.

Italy

As Natasha prepares for her school trip to Italy at half term thought you might like to see some of the photos from my Mediterranean cruise in 2012.
I've not been to Rome except to transfer from plane to ship at the start of our cruise.
Our first shore trip was to Pompeii.
Natasha -if you are going there you will probably walk on the same paths

Hope you have a wonderful time

Barley Rye Choir

In Aug 2013 I wrote about my singing lessons. Only had 4 lessons but was inspired to join a local choir early last year and really enjoy.- I usually sing the tenor line.
Barley Rye choir formed in 2000 meets for weekly practice in back room of 'Ring of Bells'.Nailsea.
With around 24 members,we specialise in folk song arrangements-mostly from the West country.
Last year  of the 21 gigs we had up to Xmas I managed 14.Most enjoyed were those in Bristol Festival of Song.Singing on the stage of St Georges was a special thrill.- often been in the audience but never on stage.Next day we had 4 song stops along the Waterside.
We had 8 gigs in December including Tesco,Tyntesfield,Tithe Barn and Dyrham Park,Bath !!
Not surprisingly in Jan I had to miss 3 events because of a sore throat !!

Families,Friends and Food

Despite lack of cooking facilities at Gitika's house we had a wonderful succession of feasts.
Christmas Eve - full English breakfast at at 'The Potting Shed '- a plant centre and fabulous cafe . I'll give it 5 stars - will definitely visit again.
Christmas day -starters by Gitika  then moved on along the street for a magnificent feast of goose and accompaniments cooked by Garry and Amanda - friends and musical partners of Andy for many years.-Lovely to met Garry's dad and other friends.lost count - think there were 14 or more.
Another feast and more friends of Garry and Amanda on Boxing day evening.

Gitika produced a lovely meal of soup and nibbles on Sun -  guests enjoyed the Xmas present coloring books!whilst I sewed curtains! and Andy,Gary and Gitika made music.
It was so good to see all 3 of my children and my grand-daughter  over the Christmas  period.

Two people sadly missed at the feasting were Grandad Fred who died last March and grandson Lenny. We hope Lenny had a happy Christmas and has a good year in 2015.

Christmas in Monmouth

Rather dreading Christmas this year- going to a lunch for people who live alone.
However Gitika/Andy invited me and family to their new/old house in Monmouth. The house is nearly 200 yrs old -!
In a short time my daughter has made the house very welcoming and festive.A huge Christmas tree, lots of candles and customised paper chains made in their workshop on Mon evening .

David arrived Mon for one night- stayed on until Boxing day! Ruth collected me from Newport station Tues morning.Return booked 27th -persuaded to stay until 29th.
Gitika catered magnificently despite not yet having her cooker.
Siggy supervised candles, plants, many cups of tea!! and vegetable prep.
between us we completed two 1000 piece jig-saws.

Holiday in Wensleydale

At October half term I went with Ruth ,Natasha and Nigel for a few days holiday in Yorkshire .

Natasha made 3 delicious cakes to take with us.An Orange Spiced layer cake, Lemon Drizzle cake and large Bakewell Tart. She's a wonderful baker. - look out British BakeOff !

Stayed at an HPB property in Askrigg. and explored many interesting places in the area

. e.g. Bolton Castle, Thorp Perrow Arboretum, Aysgarth Falls. Even on rainy days there were many fascinating venues in nearby villages. -Wensleydale cheese centre ,-tasted  over 20 varieties of cheese! Ropemakers, Chocolate factory and Farfield Mill craft centre.
-then back to our cosy apartment and a slice of yummy cake !

Lots more to see. I'd like to go back again in the summer to see e.g. Fountains Abbey and ride on the Settle -Carlisle railway,

Nigel with his super camera and recent photography qualification took lots of great photos -specially of wild birds at Bolton Castle
